LibreOffice 3.4.2 RC1 has been released by upstream. 3.4.2 is the version they claim will be ready for mass consumption, from personal users to corporate users.
I’ve updated the Slackware64 13.37 package from 3.4.1.3 to this 3.4.2.1 release. The binary package for it is available from the package website. Those who would like to build their own package can get the build script from the SVN repository.
The LibreOffice team released version 3.4.1.3 on the first of this month. I have just built a binary package for Slackware63 13.37 to update the previous 3.4.0.2 package I had release earlier. According to this LibreOffice page, this release is ready for general purpose end-user adoption, whereas earlier 3.4.x versions were not considered stable.
As always, the binary package is available from the package website and the build script from the SVN repository.
I keep track of my beer recipes and batches using a paper beer log, like most home brewers do. Sometimes this just is not enough, so I set out to find some software that can do this for me. One that I found is Brewtarget, an open source QT-based application. It stores its data using BeerXML, making data compatible with other software using the same open standard.

Pidgin 2.9.0 fixes a remote denial of service vulnerability. I’ve built a new package for Slackware63 13.37.

Enigmail is an addon for Thunderbird and Seamonkey that allows for reading and sending encrypted and signed emails. The only official Linux download of this addon is for the 32-bit x86 architecture. In order to use it with a 64-bit browser in Linux users need to either compile it themselves or download a contributed package. As there are no contributed packages for Slackware64, I build them myself. These are made available here for anyone else who may want to use them. They are signed with my GPG key.

A new stable branch of Wireshark, 1.6.0, has been released. I’ve built a new package for Slackware64 13.37. The binary package is available from the packages website, and the SlackBuild script is available from the SVN repo.
Today version 2.8.0 of Pidgin, the multi-protocol instant message program, was released. My package for Slackware64 13.37 has been updated to this latest version. My package is different from the stock Slackware package in that I provide Voice & Video chat support.

razercfg is a set of utilities for configuring certain Razer mice in Linux. It uses a daemon running in the background to handle the communication with the mouse. Two programs are provided for users to manage the configuration: a command line tool and a GUI tool.

Currently I use vim and Geany as my editors of choice for just about everything. However, having options is almost always a good idea. Looking around for good open source code editors and IDEs, I ran across Bluefish, which I haven’t used in a number of years; and CodeLite, which is new to me.
I haven’t done much testing with either one, so I don’t have a recommendation. But I do have build scripts and binary packages available for both!
Over the past couple of days I’ve been working out the kinks in the new “improved” build system for LibreOffice 3.4 (which was released yesterday). While the end result of version 3.4 may be a leaner, meaner, faster product, the build and packaging process seems to have taken a step backward from previous LO and ooo-build releases.
The build script is available now in the SVN repo for folks who would like to build this themselves. I’m in the process of building the finished binary package for Slackware64 13.37. It will be available in several hours from the package website or via FTP.
